About Us

Kenya is not a destination we sell. It is a place we know.

We are The Mara Wanderlust, a boutique safari company based in Nairobi, and every journey we build comes from years of being on the ground here. The guides we work with know the animals by name. The camps we recommend are ones we have slept in. The routes we design are shaped by season, not software.

We specialise in private safaris across Kenya and East Africa, each one built around you. Where you want to go, how you like to travel, and what you want to bring home from it.

Vincent Otieno

Founder and Kenya Safari Specialist

I started The Mara Wanderlust because I kept seeing what a great safari guide could do and what a bad itinerary could undo. I have been travelling Kenya’s parks for over a decade, and I still do the research personally before recommending any camp, route, or operator to a client. When you work with us, you are not handed off to a junior consultant. I am involved from your first inquiry to your last game drive.

Sales and Lead Safari Consultant

Most people arrive at that first conversation having already spent weeks comparing quotes, reading reviews, and trying to make sense of options that all sound the same. My job is to make that noise stop. I will ask you the right questions, tell you honestly what fits your budget and timeline, and build you something that actually matches the trip you have been imagining, not a version of it. I have planned safaris for solo travelers, honeymoon couples, and three-generation family groups. I know where the gaps are and how to close them before they become problems on the road.

Driver Guide

I have been guiding in Kenya’s parks for years, and the thing I care most about is timing. Anyone can drive you to a sighting. Knowing when to stay, when to move, and where to position the vehicle for what happens next, that is the difference between a good game drive and one you will spend the rest of your life talking about. I coordinate closely with other guides in the park every morning so you are never in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Our Story

Some places you visit. Others get into you.

The Masai Mara got into us.

We came for the wildebeest, the big cats, the light at golden hour that photographers chase for years. We stayed, in every way that matters, because of something harder to photograph. A guide who could tell you about Lenkumur, a leopard missing his front left paw, named “short leg” in Maa, who likely survived a poacher’s snare and now rules the same territory his mother once called home.

The way a herd of elephants moves through tall grass at dusk, almost soundless, like the land itself is breathing. The conversations around the fire when the day finally lets go.

We kept coming back. And somewhere along the way, we stopped being visitors and started becoming part of the story.

That shift is what The Mara Wanderlust is built on.

We started this because we believed you deserved more than a package. You deserved a guide who knows the names of the animals and the history behind those names. A camp where the staff remember how you take your coffee. An itinerary that leaves room for the unexpected, because Kenya’s best moments rarely announce themselves in advance.

Our journeys now take you across the whole country: Samburu’s red laterite roads and reticulated giraffes, Amboseli with Kilimanjaro filling the horizon, the forests of Laikipia, the raw vastness of Tsavo. Each one different. Each one shaped around who you are and what you are looking for.

The stotting impala on our emblem jumps for no reason but the joy of it. That is the energy we bring to every trip we build.

Come and see what gets into you.
